Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG) has conducted a free health screening exercise for the people of Adaklu Ayaafo residence in the Adaklu District.

The exercise is the climax of a series of health screening programs undertaking by CBG this year in the country as part of its cooperate social responsibility and to mark this year’s Mother’s Day celebrations.

Nearly One thousand women from across the District who benefit from the exercise were screened for conditions such as blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar level and were educated on how to live a healthy lifestyle.

Beneficiaries who presented conditions were provided with free medications while those having critical conditions were referred to the hospital for further treatment.

Raj Asani, the coordinator for 233 Medical Services which facilitated the exercise, urged Ghanaians to live healthy lifestyle and periodically go for medical checkups.

We are screening for cholesterol, sugar, diabetes, and we are also screening for high blood pressure. In most homes in this country rarely can you say if you went door to door and you picked 10 to 20 homes you will find one of these conditions in every one of them.

Unfortunately their a lot of people who do not check not because they don’t want to check some can’t afford it and some just feel okay every single day and don’t see the need to check. When we do screening we find a lot of people who have these conditions.” Raj Asani stated.

Speaking to Volta Star Radio, the managing director of CBG Dr. Naomi Worlali Kwetey said the initiative formed part of CBG’s commitment to promote preventative health care and improve access to essential health services in underserved areas.

“Today CBG is in Adaklu mainly to look at preventive health care for our women and also a Mother’s Day gift for the women. So we are here today to check BP, Cholesterol, Diabetes, and then we know that every home you go to most of the time you see a woman with such condition and they may not even know and walk with it. So today one of the things we are doing is to check and then to educate.

Apart from doing the health we are also looking at financial literacy, empowerment of women. In CBG we have three women that are heading so the woman empowerment is one of the key things we are doing in CBG. So we are here to teach them a little bit about savings, about investment, and about how you can grow your business alongside their health.” Dr. Naomi explained.

“Out of the 261 districts, the whole Consolidated Bank has decided to come to Adaklu is a privilege because they could have chosen to go elsewhere but we having them here we see it as a privilege and we are taking good advantage of it. It’s not just screening we have come to do what they did aside the screening is they went to pay a courtesy call to the Paramount Chief and he received us warmly.

We visited two facilities the Ahunda Health Center where patients who were on admission and having challenges with paying their bills were discharged freely through the help of CBG all their bills were cleared and then we are just coming back from the Waya Health Center where about six patients on admission have been discharged and are allowed to go home without paying anything because CBG has taken care of the entire bills of the people.”  DCE of Adaklu, Jerry Yao Ameko applicated CBG for their supports in his Municipality.
