Without prejudice or malice, the outgoing Majority Leader and the Minister of State in charge of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has for the first time caught on camera occupying a back seat just behind his original seat in the Chamber.
The calm looking Suame Legislator dressed in all-light green clothing, entered the Chamber after 11am, unpredictably sat at the back, busy with his mobile phone to the amazement of Journalists who started filming him for news.
He later moved to sit with the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu for about two minutes and again moved to his original seat (seat for the Majority Leader) for about three minutes and left the chamber quietly and strangely used the ceremonial entrance to leave the House.
Meanwhile, one of the main supporters of Kyei’s administration or leadership, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Bekwai, Joseph Osei-Owusu has expressed his disappointment. He was disappointed in the fact that the Majority Leader had resigned from his position at the time he was fighting for the continuation of administration and more importantly he resigned without assigning reason (s).
Joe Wise has earlier led some members of Parliament from the Majority Caucus to reject media reportage to the effect that there were some changes at its leadership.
According to him, the reports circulating in the media announcing the change in leadership of the Majority in Ghana’s parliament is false and people should disregard it.
Addressing members of The Parliamentary Press Corps in Parliament on Tuesday February 20, 2024, the First Deputy Speaker called on the public to ignore such claims and added that, “we are here to inform you and through you to the world that the communication that is going round is not true and it is false”
In less than 24 hours after his statement, The Majority Leader has resigned after meeting the President, MPs, NEC and other bigwigs in the NPP. When asked, Joe Wise said, he never attended the meeting.
But as it stands, subject to official communication from the party and probably from the Speaker in respect to change in leadership, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonso will be addressed as a former Leader of the house as the case may be in coming days.
