Former Black Stars and Hearts of Oak star Charles Taylor has praised Ghana’s performance in the goalless draw against England, saying the team showed significant improvement from their opening game against Panama and added they were denied a clear penalty.
The Black Stars earned a valuable point at Gillette Stadium to move to four points in Group L and strengthen their hopes of reaching the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking on Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV on YouTube after the match, Taylor admitted he was not overly confident before the game but was impressed by how the players rose to the occasion.
“I saw an improvement in the England game compared to the first against Panama. I wasn’t so confident so I stated it will be difficult for Ghana but the boys did well,” Taylor said.
The former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko playmaker believes the team is developing with each match and growing in confidence under head coach Carlos Queiroz.
“It means they keep learning from what we have been saying. The team played with confidence and it shows the team is progressing very well,” he added.
Taylor also expressed disappointment over a missed opportunity by substitute Prince Kwabena Adu and insisted Ghana should have been awarded a penalty during the match.
“I always say it will be difficult for any striker to get a goal if the person isn’t quick. That Kwabena Adu chance, if it was Ishmael Addo here, he should have placed the ball right on receiving the pass but spent much time for the defender to come and cover,” he said.
“We were denied a clear penalty because Konsa never touched the ball but rather touched the player so it should have been awarded.”
The former Ghana Premier League top scorer will be hoping the Black Stars can build on their encouraging performances when they face Croatia in their final group match on June 27.
