Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) George Amoako has stated that Chris Hughton has not been impressive since he took over as coach of the Black Stars.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion manager was appointed on a 21-month deal which will see him until at least the end of 2024 following the exit of Otto Addo who led the team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Hughton has struggled to meet the expectations of Ghanaians given his rich vein of experience in the English Premier League. Under the 64-year-old, Ghana have played three matches recording a single victory and two draws which have been labeled by many as disappointing.

In the first match the Black Stars had to wait until the dying ember of the game to get a win against Angola in Kumasi before managing a draw in the return leg in Luanda in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. There were also held to a scoreless draw against Madagascar.

George Amoako who doubles as the CEO of King Faisal equally believes Hughton was expected to do more despite only taking over in March.

“Have you seen Chris Hughton’s performance? He has played three matches. He hasn’t been impressive,” he told Angel FM.

“If you look at the teams, Madagascar. I went to see the game against Angola and all the games I have seen we play under him. I am not really impressed. Let’s pray at least that we will qualify for the 2023 AFCON.”

Ghana will have to avoid defeat against Central African Republic (CAR) in their final AFCON qualifier which is scheduled for September to make it to the tournament next year.
