Afrobeat star Davido and his ex-partner, Sophia Momodu, set aside past differences to co-host a vibrant 10th birthday celebration for their daughter, Imade.
The event, themed “Imade’s Enchanted Forest,” boasted enchanting decorations and a warm, festive vibe.
Held shortly after Davido’s reunion with Imade following their custody dispute, the party marked a touching milestone for the family.
The former couple, who were in an on-and-off relationship between 2014-2017 and 2020-2022, have had a tumultuous co-parenting history, marked by public disputes and legal battles over the custody of their daughter, Imade.
The custody conflict began escalating in 2015, shortly after Imade’s birth, when Sophia accused Davido’s family, including his half-sister Ashley Coco Adeleke and father, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, of attempting to take Imade out of Nigeria without her consent.
A notable incident involved an alleged attempt to travel with Imade via Emirates Airlines, which was thwarted by Sophia and her family, including Dele Momodu, leading to a petition for attempted child trafficking
Tensions resurfaced in 2024 when Davido filed a lawsuit at the Lagos State High Court on April 17, seeking joint custody or unrestricted access to Imade.
He claimed to have fulfilled financial obligations, including paying school fees, providing vehicles, and offering a N200 million apartment in Oniru, Victoria Island, which Sophia allegedly rejected.
Sophia countered with a 102-paragraph affidavit, alleging Davido abandoned Imade for two years after their 2022 breakup, particularly after she refused further sexual involvement.
She argued that Davido’s lifestyle, frequent travels, and the tragic death of his son, Ifeanyi, in 2022 raised concerns about his suitability for custody.
Prominent guests, including veteran journalist Dele Momodu and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, joined Davido, Sophia, and Imade to cut the birthday cake, adding to the joyous occasion.
