Death of 24-year-old KNUST Graduate: Police Discloses Cause of Death | General News

Following the tragedy that hit a Petroleum Engineering graduate from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), whose death was reported to have happened in a hotel at Anaji, Western region, the Ghana Police Service has issued an official autopsy report.

The death of the 24-year-old Petroleum Engineering Graduate came as a shock to the family and colleagues at work.

Lois Abena Koranteng was said to have embarked on a business trip with her boss and driver on June 8, 2024.

Reports gathered disclosed that she had spoken to her family members on the trip with hopes of returning home after her activities in Takoradi were over.

Sadly, a phone call came through the following day to the family indicating Lois Abena Koranteng, the last born of a family of three had passed under very bizarre circumstances.

A member of the family narrated, “She was working with an energy company, they mostly, travel to Takoradi and other places on weekends for business. We spoke to her on the weekend before leaving, around 5:30 am the following day, we had a phone call that our sister had been found dead in the swimming pool of the hotel where they were lodging.”

However, providing update on investigations conducted on the incident so far, the police said an autopsy conducted by officials in the presence of the deceased’s parents reveal that Lois Koranteng died of Asphyxia, severe pulmonary edema and drowning in a pool.

The police in a statement on Thursday, July 11, 2024, revealed that it had started its investigations into the unfortunate incident on June 8, the same day the police received complaint about the incident.

Excerpt of the police report stated, “On the same day, police commenced investigation into the incident. A Police team visited the scene and also visited the hospital and inspected the body but no marks of assault were found on her.”

The police added that following dissatisfaction from the deceased’s family about the extent of police engagement with them, the Inspector General of Police rendered an unqualified apology via a phone call to the family.

The police noted that the IGP assured the family of visiting them at their convenience and update them on investigation done so far.
