Ghanaian businesswoman and socialite Diamond Appiah was rearrested by the police moments after she was discharged of fraud charges by a Circuit Court in Accra.
Appiah was arrested and charged with defrauding Ayisha Modi of $30,000 for a parcel of land that did not belong to her. She pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail of GHc300,000.
On August 21, 2023, the Attorney General’s Office filed a Nolle prosequi in the case, which means that they were dropping the charges against Appiah.
But as soon as she was discharged from the court, she was rearrested by the police.
The reason for the re-arrest is not yet known, but it is possible that the police are investigating other charges against Appiah.
The re-arrest of Diamond Appiah has sparked outrage. Her lawyer, D.K. Nyameke, has also condemned the re-arrest, calling it “a clear case of abuse of power.”
