Fifteen years ago, the Digital Innovation Awards began as a national recognition platform in Ghana. Today, it has evolved into one of Africa’s most influential convenings at the intersection of technology, policy, and capital.
On July 3, 2026, the Digital Innovation Awards DIA 2026 will mark its 15th anniversary at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra, bringing together a cross section of Africa’s digital economy leaders for a day that blends high level policy dialogue with industry recognition.
Formerly known as the Ghana Information Technology and Telecom Awards, DIA has, over the past decade and a half, grown into a Pan African platform that not only celebrates innovation but actively shapes the narrative around Africa’s digital transformation.
From Recognition to Influence
What sets DIA apart is its evolution from an awards ceremony into a strategic platform for influence. Over the last 15 years, the platform has:
Recognised hundreds of organisations and leaders driving digital transformation in Ghana and beyond
Spotlighted breakthrough innovations in fintech, telecoms, government technology, and digital infrastructure
Elevated conversations around digital inclusion, policy reform, and infrastructure investment
Created a bridge between policymakers, private sector leaders, and investors
Contributed to shaping the ecosystem that now underpins Africa’s rapidly growing digital economy
In many ways, DIA has mirrored the growth of Africa’s tech ecosystem itself from early stage experimentation to a continent now attracting global capital and building scalable digital solutions.
A Platform That Signals Credibility and Scale
For organisations and leaders, being recognised at DIA is more than a moment of prestige it is a signal of credibility, impact, and relevance within Africa’s digital economy.
Winners and participants are typically those:
Deploying technology at scale across key sectors
Driving measurable economic and social impact
Building solutions that address Africa’s structural challenges
Leading innovation within both public and private sector ecosystems
Participation in DIA places organisations within a network of decision makers and industry leaders, offering visibility, partnership opportunities, and access to conversations shaping the future of digital Africa.
The 2026 Edition: From Conversation to Execution
This year’s edition reflects a shift in focus from ambition to execution.
The day will begin with Digital Economy Live DEL 2026, a high level breakfast roundtable running from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM under the theme:
“Building Africa’s Digital Future: Inclusion, Infrastructure and Intelligent Growth”
Designed as the intellectual and policy engine of DIA, DEL will convene policymakers, regulators, technology leaders, and investors to address one central challenge how to deliver digital transformation at scale.
The breakfast summit will also feature participation from the Embassy of Israel in Ghana, with H.E. Ambassador Roey Gilad expected to deliver a keynote address on:
“Global Innovation Partnerships: Leveraging Technology to Accelerate Inclusive Digital Growth”
The session will explore the growing importance of international innovation partnerships, technology ecosystems, startup collaboration, and digital infrastructure in driving inclusive economic growth across Africa.
Israel’s participation reflects the increasing role of global partnerships in shaping Africa’s digital future, particularly in areas such as entrepreneurship, innovation ecosystems, AgriTech, digital infrastructure, and technology-enabled enterprise growth.Key focus areas will include digital public infrastructure, cybersecurity, digital inclusion, cloud and data systems, artificial intelligence adoption, and data led transformation.
The conversations are expected to move beyond theory, focusing instead on implementation frameworks, investment pathways, and measurable outcomes.
An Evening of Recognition and Strategic Positioning
The day will culminate in the Digital Innovation Awards gala, where leading organisations and individuals will be recognised for shaping Africa’s digital future.
But beyond the awards, the evening serves as a strategic convergence point bringing together those building, funding, regulating, and scaling Africa’s digital economy.
It is where partnerships are formed, ideas are tested, and influence is consolidated.
Speaking ahead of the event, Akin Naphtal, CEO of InstinctWave, said:
“As we mark 15 years of the Digital Innovation Awards, we are not just celebrating excellence we are reinforcing a continental movement. DIA has evolved into more than an awards platform it is a catalyst for Africa’s digital transformation. Africa’s digital future is no longer about potential it is about execution at scale. Through Digital Economy Live and DIA 2026, we are bringing together the right voices, ideas, and partnerships to move from conversation to implementation, while spotlighting the leaders and institutions building a resilient, inclusive, and globally competitive digital economy.”
Looking Ahead
As Africa’s digital economy continues to expand, with projections pointing to multi billion dollar opportunities across sectors, platforms like DIA are playing an increasingly critical role not just in recognising excellence, but in shaping the direction of growth.
At 15, the Digital Innovation Awards is no longer just an event. It is part of the infrastructure of Africa’s digital future.
