Ghana has presented 509,862 candidates for this year’s West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), which began with Oral English on Tuesday.
Statistics from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) revealed that 225,274 of the candidates are males, while 284,588 are females.
In addition, 82 candidates from Togo will join their Ghanaian counterparts.
WAEC figures showed that the Ashanti Region registered the highest number of candidates, 127,702, including 69,817 females.
The Eastern Region followed with 70,099 candidates, of which 40,289 were females.
Brong Ahafo presented 67,739 candidates, including 38,081 females, while the Central Region registered 61,303 candidates, made up of 25,360 males and 35,943 females.
Greater Accra registered 48,099 candidates, with 25,681 females.
In the Volta Region, 41,622 candidates were registered, including 22,361 females.
Western Region presented 35,620 candidates, of which 21,140 were females.
Northern Region had 33,155 candidates, including 16,862 females.
The Upper East Region registered 15,192 candidates, with 9,099 females, while the Upper West Region presented 9,249 candidates, including 5,266 females.
