Ghanaian music duo DopeNation has announced plans to provide financial support to some victims affected by the devastating floods that swept through parts of Accra following Monday’s heavy rains.
In a message shared on their social media pages, the musicians noted that the disaster, which claimed lives and destroyed properties, should serve as a reminder for Ghanaians to stand together in love and support one another during difficult times.
According to the ‘Zanku’ hitmakers, they intend to donate GH¢1,000 each to a number of affected victims and families in selected parts of Accra. The funds, they revealed, will come from the proceeds of their ongoing Europe tour.
DopeNation further acknowledged that the donation would not undo the destruction caused by the floods or bring back lives that were lost. However, they expressed hope that the financial support would help ease some of the burden on the affected families.
“We intend to give 1000 cedis each to a number of victims, families affected in some parts of Accra from our Europe tour proceeds. This won’t solve the problem neither will it bring back the lives and property but will at least ease some tension amongst us,” they added.
The gesture comes in the wake of one of the country’s most destructive flooding incidents in recent times, which left several communities submerged, displaced many residents, and resulted in the loss of lives and valuable property. Government agencies, humanitarian organisations, public figures, and individuals have since joined efforts to provide relief and support to affected families.
DopeNation concluded their message by signing off with, “With love, DopeNation,” expressing solidarity with victims and encouraging unity during the difficult period.
