Dr Rosemond Wilson Appointed New Head of WAEC Ghana

Dr Rosemond Wilson

Dr. Rosemond Wilson has been appointed as the new Head of the Ghana National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), succeeding Mrs. Wendy E. Addy-Lamptey, who has retired. WAEC announced in Accra on Wednesday, July 17.

Dr. Wilson brings a wealth of experience and expertise in assessment, acquired over her distinguished 27-year tenure with WAEC, starting in September 1997. Before her appointment, she served as the acting Head of the Test Development Division at WAEC.

Her professional journey began in the early 1990s as an Elective Mathematics tutor at Baidoo Bonsoe Senior High Technical School and Tarkwa Senior High School in Ghana’s Western Region.

According to the statement released by WAEC, Dr Wilson’s career progression within the organization has been marked by significant leadership roles, including headship of the Mathematics Section, Post Examinations Department, and the Test Development Division. She has played a pivotal role in enhancing operational processes and the quality of examinations conducted by WAEC.

Dr. Wilson’s academic background is a testament to her dedication and passion for education. It includes a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, two Master’s Degrees (MSc in Statistics and M.A. in Measurement and Evaluation from the University of Cape Coast), and a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Education, Winneba.

She has actively contributed to the field of mathematics education and assessment through extensive participation in numerous local and international conferences, where she has presented papers.

In her new role, Dr Wilson is unwavering in her commitment to upholding the highest standards in educational assessment at WAEC Ghana. She aims to implement innovative policies that enhance the reliability and validity of examinations while deepening stakeholder engagement and collaboration to ensure academic and moral excellence.

Dr. Wilson, a member of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), is married and has two adult children.
