Drivers have been advised to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy to avoid accidents on the roads. They should also ensure that they have driver’s license and all relevant documents on their vehicles.

The National Coordinator, Compliance and Enforcement at DVLA, Richard Kwasi Eyiah gave the advice when officials of DVLA embarked on a sensitization programme to educate commercial drivers at Atomic Down Trotro station and Atomic Junction Taxi Rank in Accra on the need to ensure that their vehicles are well maintained to avoid endangering the lives of passengers.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, DVLA, is mandated under the laws of the country to issue license to qualified drivers after meeting all required processes.

The Authority is also mandated to educate drivers on things to do to ensure the roadworthiness of their vehicles.

Speaking at separate functions to sensitize the drivers at Atomic Down Trotro Station and Atomic Junction Taxi Rank, the National Coordinator, Compliance and Enforcement at DVLA, Richard Kwasi Eyiah said commercial vehicles are not supposed to use tinted windows which prevent people from seeing the occupants.

He encouraged drivers to take their vehicles to the designated areas themselves for roadworthy processes rather than going through goro boys and girls.

Mr Eyiah also touched on insurance, seats in commercial vehicles and other relevant information.

Two of the drivers, Adjetey Sowah and Alhassan Abdulai talked about the challenges drivers face in their work and appealed to DVLA to help them find solution to them.

The DVLA is continuing its sensitization in Madina and its environs. Next week, the programme will move to Weija.
