The Electoral Commission (EC) has temporarily stopped the re-collation of parliamentary results at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra. The decision comes after growing disagreements between political parties disrupted the process.
The re-collation exercise, which started earlier this week, aimed to resolve discrepancies in the election results from several constituencies. However, on December 12, 2024, tensions between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) escalated, making it difficult to continue.
Both parties raised concerns about the accuracy of the results. The NDC claimed there were discrepancies in the pink sheets from some constituencies, while the NPP criticized the EC for delays and how the process was being handled.
To ensure the safety of all participants, the EC had earlier requested police protection at the venue. Despite this, disagreements persisted, forcing the Commission to pause the exercise for further consultations with the political parties involved.
The re-collation was meant to address issues in constituencies like Suhum, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Fanteakwa North, and Akwatia in the Eastern Region. These areas have faced disputes over the initial election results.
The EC has assured the public that the process will resume once all parties agree on a way forward. Their goal is to ensure transparency, fairness, and confidence in the electoral process. For now, the re-collation remains on hold as discussions continue.
