The Ministry of Education has expressed appreciation to three major teacher unions for suspending their nationwide strike following constructive negotiations with the government and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
In a press statement issued on Friday, the Ministry commended the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG) for their decision to suspend the industrial action.
The Ministry described the decision as a positive step towards resolving outstanding concerns through dialogue, mutual understanding and constructive engagement in the interest of teachers and learners.
It reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with the unions, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and other relevant stakeholders to address the issues that led to the strike while promoting teachers’ welfare and ensuring stability in the education sector.
The statement also acknowledged the patience and resilience of teachers, parents, learners and other stakeholders affected by the industrial action.
The Ministry urged all parties to maintain the spirit of cooperation and good faith to ensure that progress made through negotiations is sustained and translated into lasting solutions.
It further reiterated its commitment to strengthening industrial harmony and creating an enabling environment where teachers are valued, supported and empowered to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s education transformation agenda.
The suspension of the strike is expected to provide an opportunity for continued engagement among the parties as efforts continue to resolve the outstanding issues and safeguard the uninterrupted delivery of quality education.
