Emerse Fae has left his role as head coach of the Ivory Coast national team after his contract expired and was not renewed, the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) confirmed on Friday.The 42-year-old, who took over as interim coach in January 2024 following the dismissal of Jean-Louis Gasset, was appointed permanently in May 2024 after leading the Elephants to a memorable Africa Cup of Nations triumph on home soil. He won the tournament in February 2024, defeating Nigeria 2-1 in the final.Fae’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Ivorian football. Under his guidance, the Elephants achieved notable success, winning the 2024 AFCON and reaching the quarter-finals of the 2025 tournament. Ivory Coast also qualified for the 2026 World Cup, finishing top of Group C with 20 points.Despite these achievements, the FIF opted not to extend his contract, leaving the former midfielder to seek new opportunities.The FIF will now begin the search for a new head coach, with the Elephants’ next competitive fixture scheduled for September, where they will face Ghana in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.Fae, who previously served as assistant coach to Gasset, is expected to attract interest from clubs and national teams following his successful spell with the Elephants.
