The Ghana National Fire Service recorded a total of 691,591 prank calls in 2023, compared to 611,660 in 2022.

The Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (CFO), Julius Kuunuor, who revealed this at the inauguration of the Fire Service Academy and Training School in Duayaw Nkwanta in the Ahafo Region, expressed worry as such calls impede effective service delivery.

Records from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) indicate a decline in fire outbreaks from 6,154 from January to December 2022 to 5,973 for the same period in 2023.

This, according to the Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (CFO), Julius Kuunuor, who revealed this, indicates a reduction of 181 fires, representing 2.94 percent. CFO Julius Kuunuor attributed the reduction to their community engagements. CFO Kuunuor said the service is poised to rid the country of undesired fire outbreaks in 2024.

CFO Julius Kuunuor said the personnel of the service continue to grapple with mob attacks from a section of the public. Prank calls are another challenge the GNFS is facing, as it recorded a total of 691,591 prank calls from the public in 2023, compared to 611,660 in 2022, according to CFO Julius Kuunuor.

Mr. Kuunuor urged the public to desist from such practices because such calls delay genuine distress calls and also hinder their operations.
