Former Ghana coach Chris Hughton says he has fully recovered after being diagnosed with prostate cancer last year. The 67-year-old, who previously managed Ghana, underwent surgery in May 2025 to remove his prostate. He says his recovery has gone well and he is now cancer-free.Hughton said he was calm when he received the diagnosis. The news certainly didnt scare me, he said. I know everyone is different, but my first impression was: Ill be fine.He added, I didnt instantly think this is probably going to kill me. I just thought well have to do what we have to do.The former Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United, Norwich City and Birmingham City manager said the illness was detected early during a routine health check while he was at Brighton. As a Black man over 50 with a family history of the disease, Hughton said he fell into a higher-risk category. Regular blood tests revealed raised prostate-specific antigen levels, allowing doctors to act quickly.I had very good advice, and all the treatment options were given to me, and I decided to have my prostate removed, he said. The recovery has gone really well. Im one year post-operation, and I feel good. Ive got a lot of energy.Keeping active and busy is part of how I am, but its also about rehabilitation and keeping your mind active as well.Hughton is now keen to raise awareness of early detection. He last managed Ghana in 2024 before leaving the role. Over his career, he has overseen 169 Premier League matches and achieved promotion to the top flight with both Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion.
