Former Malawian President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has arrived in Accra with his wife, Mrs Monica Chakwera, to participate in the 10th Triennial Congress of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship.

The former president was welcomed at the Accra International Airport by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey and the Executive Presbytery officers of Assemblies of God, Ghana, led by its General Superintendent, Rev. Stephen Wengam.
Mr Ablakwa expressed the government’s delight at welcoming Dr Chakwera to Ghana for the global congress.
He also commended the World Assemblies of God Fellowship for choosing Ghana, and Africa as a whole, to host the international event, assuring the Church of the government’s support to ensure its success.

Rev. Wengam, in turn, thanked Dr Chakwera for accepting the invitation to participate in what he described as a historic global gathering.

Dr Chakwera expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to successfully host the congress, drawing on his experience as a former General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God in Malawi.
He also expressed optimism about the spiritual impact of the gathering, predicting that “there would be a great revival afterwards.”
The World Assemblies of God Fellowship Congress runs from Wednesday, October 14, to Friday, October 16, 2026.
The programme will feature morning conferences and culminate in gospel revival rallies at the Accra Sports Stadium, which are open to Christians from all denominations.
Attendance at the revival rallies is free.
