Four nurses awaiting government posting have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a financial misconduct scheme that reportedly led to the diversion of approximately GH?5 million from Amegashie Herbal Clinic.
According to the clinic’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Amegashie, the suspects were apprehended at the facility’s Kasoa branch following an internal investigation into irregularities in the clinic’s financial records.
Speaking on the matter, Dr Amegashie disclosed that the investigation uncovered an alleged operation in which funds paid by patients were diverted into the personal accounts of the suspects instead of being recorded through the clinic’s official financial system.
The CEO explained that the nurses allegedly maintained a separate register to document payments received from certain patients.
This unofficial record reportedly enabled them to conceal transactions from the clinic’s accounting system and retain the funds for personal use.
According to preliminary findings, the suspected scheme may have been operating for an extended period before it was detected, resulting in losses estimated at nearly GH?5 million.
Dr Amegashie indicated that management became suspicious after identifying discrepancies between patient payment records and the clinic’s official financial statements. Further investigations allegedly revealed a pattern of unaccounted transactions linked to the suspects.
