Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus could not hide his frustrations after Ghana drew 2-2 with Egypt in the second Group B game at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Kudus scored all two goals for Ghana in the 2-2 draw with Egypt and was adjudged Man of the Match after a stunning performance, but blamed it on “careless mistakes”.

He urged the team to get back and win the next game.

“It’s a mixed feeling. As a striker, you want your goals to impact the outcome. We made careless mistakes. Now we have to get back to work, win the next one, and then see what happens,” Kudus said.

The Westham man, who was elated to be back after nursing an injury that kept him on the sideline for two weeks, says his return is vital for the team.

“I’m happy to be back. I worked very hard to get back to the top and help my team, my nation. It’s important for me to be here,” he said.

This is Kudus’ AFCON debut, where he scored twice for Ghana in a difficult fixture against Egypt, but Ghana only grabbed a point from the draw.

He maintains high hopes for the tournament.

“The goal remains the same, which is to bring the trophy home,” he concluded.

Ghana’s next group game will be against Mozambique on Monday, January 22, at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpé.
