The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has urged journalists across the country to uphold the principles of truth, fairness, accuracy and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, warning that the speed of information dissemination in the digital age must not compromise journalistic integrity.

He made the call as Chairman of the Occasion at the 30th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, where journalists from across the country converged to celebrate excellence in media practice.

In his address, the Ga Mantse emphasised the need for journalists to remain committed to ethical standards, particularly in an era where information travels rapidly across digital platforms.

He stressed that the urgency to break news must not come at the expense of accuracy, urging media practitioners to exercise caution and responsibility in their reporting.

The Ga Mantse noted that the awards go beyond celebrating outstanding journalism, serving as an inspiration to aspiring media practitioners while strengthening public confidence in the profession.

“This event not only celebrates excellence but also inspires the next generation of media practitioners and reinforces public confidence in the profession,” he said.

The event was held under the theme, “Celebrating Excellence, Advancing Media Freedom and Combating Hate Speech in the Digital Age,” highlighting the importance of promoting media freedom while addressing the growing concerns of hate speech and misinformation in the digital space.

The 30th GJA Media Awards recognises outstanding contributions by journalists and media organisations to the development of journalism in Ghana.
