The Minister of the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has inaugurated an 11-member Governing Board of the Gaming Commission of Ghana, tasking them to drive regulatory reform and promote responsible gaming practices.
The Board’s mandate includes ensuring compliance with international best practices, tackling underage gambling and illegal operators, and promoting staff capacity development.
In his charge to the Board, Hon. Muntaka emphasised the importance of supporting the passage of the draft Legislative Instrument (LI) to enhance governance standards and build a robust and sustainable gaming industry. He noted that the current legal framework of the Gaming Act does not address the evolving trends in the gaming industry, particularly with the advent of artificial intelligence.
The Hon. Minister commended the Commission for its progress in recent times, noting the drafted Legislative Instrument (LI) for regulatory reform, developing a Health and Safety Policy, and launching the “Purple Month” initiative to sensitise young people on gaming addiction.
He expressed confidence in the Board’s ability to discharge their duties with diligence and integrity, assuring them of his full support in building a modern gaming industry in Ghana. With the Board now in place, the Gaming Commission is poised to take significant strides in regulating the industry and promoting responsible gaming practices.

The Minister’s assurance of support underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that the gaming industry contributes positively to the country’s economic development while protecting the welfare of its citizens. The inauguration of the Governing Board marks a new chapter in the Commission’s journey towards achieving its mandate.
Hon. James Enu Esq, Chairman of the Governing Board, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency the President for the confidence reposed in them. He assured that the Board will work to the best of its ability and engage key stakeholders to improve the gaming industry.
