The Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Professor Amin Alhassan, has confirmed that all technicians who worked during the African Games have been paid.

The announcement was made in response to queries at a public accounts committee sitting held on Monday, August 19, 2024. The query about the state broadcaster’s payment was raised by Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel George.

Speaking on the matter, Professor Amin Alhassan assured that the payment process was meticulously managed. “All technicians that GBC engaged have been duly paid. The policy implemented required an accounts officer and an internal auditor to visit each location every day to compensate the staff. Each GBC employee received a daily allowance of ¢100 while on location”; he affirmed

Further clarifying the payment policy, Professor Alhassan noted an important aspect about the conditions of service for GBC staff. “There is no provision in the conditions of service that entitles GBC staff to any payment for work within the Greater Accra region. However, considering the high cost of food in the city, the provision for subsistence support was made to alleviate financial burdens on the staff,” He stated.

Professor Alhassan urged the general public to disregard any claims suggesting that the technicians were not paid. He emphasized that the daily allowance was specifically to support the staff due to the high expenses they faced while on duty. This clarification aims to debunk any misleading rumours.
