Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Okraku has officially confirmed that the much-awaited Black Stars final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be announced on June 1.
The confirmation comes after growing concerns among Ghanaian football fans following delays in the squad announcement, especially after several countries participating in the tournament had already unveiled their final lists.
Questions had intensified in recent days as supporters anxiously awaited the official squad announcement ahead of the tournament in North America.
However, following Ghana’s 2-0 defeat to Mexico in a pre-World Cup friendly in Puebla, Ghana FA boss Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku finally provided clarity on the situation through a Facebook post.
“Objective accomplished! This event has provided significant stage exposure for the majority of our U-23 players, who will soon assemble for the Olympic qualifiers, as well as other players who had limited playing time. The World Cup squad announcement is scheduled for June 1st. Let’s maintain our collective support for our stars!!” he wrote.
The latest update means the final World Cup squad will likely be involved in Ghana’s final preparatory friendly against Wales on June 2 before the team travels fully to North America for the tournament.
The Black Stars are preparing for their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 18 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
