Kim Lars BjrkegrenThe Ghana Football Association (GFA) has justified its decision to appoint Kim Lars Bjorkegren as interim Black Stars coach, citing his record with the countrys national teams as the key reason for his selection. The Swedish tactician, who currently leads the Black Queens, will take charge of the senior mens team for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Somalia following Carlos Queirozs departure.A five-member committee recommended Bjorkegren for the temporary position, with Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram appointed as his assistants.GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum said the committee considered the performances of coaches within the national team structure before settling on Bjorkegren. The committee looked within and settled on Kim Lars Bjorkegren because he is the best-performing coach in terms of the national teams, so I dont think it will be a challenge for him, he told Asempa FM.Asante Twum also explained the reasoning behind the selection of the two assistants, pointing to Attrams previous work with Queiroz and Tankos success in domestic football. The committee felt we have to look at someone who worked with Carlos Queiroz, and it is obviously Godwin Attram, he said.On Tankos appointment, he added: Ibrahim Tanko is the best coach in the country at the moment. He is the defending champion of the Ghana Premier League and currently sits at the top of the league. However, Bjrkegrens new assignment comes at a crucial time for the Black Queens, who are preparing for the Womens World Cup play-off tournament. Ghana are scheduled to face Ecuador, Uzbekistan and Papua New Guinea in the competition, reportedly set for Morocco on November 28 13 days after the Black Stars second qualifier against Somalia.Addressing concerns that the dual responsibility could disrupt the Black Queens preparations, Asante Twum played down the possibility of a conflict. We are aware that the Black Queens will prepare next month for the World Cup play-offs, but I dont think that his appointment will be a hindrance.
