Ghanas 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign began with a 2-0 loss to rivals Cote d’Ivoire in Bouake on Thursday.
The Black Stars were beaten at the Stade de la Paix after goals from debutant Malick Yalcouye and Cote d’Ivoire captain Franck Kessie secured victory for the hosts.
Although Ghana were unable to find the net, the match produced several notable chances and moments of intensity on and off the pitch.
Caleb Yirenkyi, Benjamin Tetteh and Augustine Boakye all came close for the Black Stars, while the passion displayed on the touchline added to the atmosphere of a fiercely contested encounter.
The result gives Cote d’Ivoire an early advantage in the qualifying campaign, with Ghana left to reflect on missed opportunities after a difficult opening match.
