The Ghana boxing fraternity gathered over the weekend to bid a final farewell to former WBC International champion Michael Ebo Danquah, one of the country’s most respected fighters of the 1980s and 1990s.

Members of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), including boxers, coaches, managers, promoters and prospective candidates for the 2026 GBA elections, joined family, friends and supporters to honour the late boxer. The funeral rites began with a wake on Friday, followed by a burial service on Saturday and a final memorial gathering on Sunday at Chorkor.

As part of the tribute, coach Augustus Dodoo of Bukom and Charger organized a boxing exhibition featuring young fighters, while Alex Ntiamoah Boakye oversaw arrangements to ensure a successful event.

Several notable figures from Ghana boxing attended, including former world champion Azumah Nelson, Yoofi Boham, Ivan Bruce-Cudjoe, Ernest Ofori and Roger Barnor.

Danquah was widely regarded as one of the finest boxers to emerge from Chorkor and Mamprobi. Known for his discipline and ring craft, he enjoyed a distinguished professional career, winning the ABU, Commonwealth and WBC International light flyweight titles.

His legacy remains an enduring source of inspiration for Ghana’s boxing community.
