The Black Starlets can secure a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 WAFU Zone B U17 Championship with victory over Benin in their second Group A match in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

Kassim Ocanseys team began the tournament with a 1-0 win against Togo. David Kwarteng scored the only goal of the game to give Ghana three points and a winning start to their campaign.

Another victory would guarantee the Black Starlets automatic qualification for the semi-finals, allowing them to reach the knockout stage with one group fixture still to play.

Benin will be seeking to prevent that outcome after drawing 0-0 with hosts Burkina Faso in their opening match. They need a first win of the competition to strengthen their hopes of progressing from the group.

Ghana assistant coach Hamza Mohammed expects a difficult contest but says the team remain focused on achieving their target.

We know they will come hard but we are focused on securing qualification to the semi-final. Benin have a very good team, we respect them but we know who we are and what we want, Hamza said ahead of the encounter.

The Black Starlets will take confidence from their opening-day success, although the coaching staff will expect greater efficiency in front of goal. Ghana created several chances against Togo but found the net only once.

The match represents an important test for Ocanseys side as they pursue success in the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship. The tournament also serves as a qualifying competition for the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
