Kwame Governs Agbodza

The government has fully settled all outstanding arrears owed to the contractor working on the Tema Motorway project, Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways, announced in Parliament on Wednesday.

Addressing lawmakers on the Floor of the House, he said financial obligations under the contract had been cleared, removing a major hurdle that often slowed public infrastructure projects.

“Mr. Speaker, on record, the Motorway contract is ongoing and as of this morning, we don’t owe the contractor any amount of money. All outstanding claims have been settled,” Mr Agbodza told Parliament.

He explained that the government made the payment a priority to prevent financial constraints from stalling work.

According to the Minister, delays caused by alleged unpaid claims had been a recurring challenge for contractors across the country.

With payments now up to date, the Minister urged the contractor to intensify work on-site and deliver visible progress.

“We will endeavour to continue to encourage the contractors to work on this project to hurry up,” he added.

The Tema Motorway was one of Ghana’s most strategic transport corridors which links Accra to the industrial city of Tema, supports port operations at Tema Port, and extends connectivity toward Togo.

The route is critical for the movement of goods and for regional trade within the West African sub-region.
