National Cathedral Project

The Mahama administration has announced plans to convert the stalled National Cathedral project into a National Cultural Convention Centre (NCCC), pivoting toward creative economy development.

Officials confirm the redesigned facility will host international exhibitions, film festivals, and cultural summits under the government’s SH0W24 initiative within its 24-hour economy framework.

Originally launched in 2018 as a Christian monument, the project faced criticism over funding and delays before being halted. Authorities now position the NCCC as an inclusive venue to establish Ghana as Africa’s cultural nexus, partnered with the AfCFTA Secretariat.

According to government releases, the transformation includes establishing a National Creators Academy, over 250 round-the-clock community centers, and a Ghana Cultural Passport to boost tourism and creative exports. The NCCC is slated for completion by 2030, aligning with broader efforts to leverage cultural assets for economic diversification.
