Ghana have moved up eight places to 65th in the latest FIFA World Rankings following their winning start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars earned the ranking boost after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama in their opening Group L fixture at BMO Field in Toronto.

Midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi emerged as the hero for Ghana, scoring the decisive goal late in the game to hand Carlos Queiroz’s side all three points and a perfect start to their World Cup campaign.

The victory not only strengthened Ghana’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages but has also had a positive impact on the country’s standing in the global rankings.

Ghana entered the tournament determined to improve their international reputation and have already taken a significant step forward with the rise in the rankings.

The Black Stars will now turn their attention to their next Group L challenge against England as they look to build on their impressive start and continue climbing the FIFA ladder.

A positive result in the remaining group matches could see Ghana make further gains in future FIFA ranking updates.
