The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has reaffirmed its commitment to providing one hot nutritious meal daily for pupils in public basic schools nationwide as the 2025 academic year commences.

In a press statement issued on January 13, 2025, the GSFP directed all existing caterers to resume meal services for beneficiaries across the 16 regions of Ghana following the reopening of schools on January 8.

According to the statement, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP), in collaboration with the GSFP, plans to roll out a new caterer procurement process under the new administration.

This initiative is expected to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the programme, which currently benefits over four million schoolchildren in deprived communities.

The National Coordinator also disclosed that the government has made significant progress in clearing arrears owed to caterers. Payment for the entire third term of the 2023/2024 academic year has been settled.

Additionally, 40 out of the 71 cooking days owed for the first term of the 2024/2025 academic year have been paid, with the remaining 31 days slated for settlement soon.

The GSFP called on stakeholders, including opinion leaders in beneficiary communities, to support caterers in executing their mandate without any hindrances.
