Ghana’s Esther Ohenewaa delivered an impressive performance to win silver in the women’s high jump at the 2026 African Athletics Championships in Accra.

The talented jumper cleared a height of 1.81 metres to secure a second-place finish and add another medal to Ghana’s growing tally at the continental competition. Her achievement continued an encouraging run for the host nation after Florence Agyeman and Alex Amankwah both claimed bronze medals earlier in the championships.

Ohenewaa’s success has also drawn comparisons with fellow Ghanaian high jumper Rose Yeboah, who has become one of the country’s leading figures in the event in recent years. The silver medal highlights Ghana’s steady progress in field events and reinforces the nation’s growing reputation in African athletics.

Competing in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, Esther Ohenewaa showed composure and determination throughout the contest as fans celebrated yet another podium finish for Team Ghana at the championships in Accra.
