Ghana’s Golden Arms comfortably led the medal haul at the 2023 African Armwrestling Championship on the opening day of the event.
The event opened at the GNAT Hall in Adabraka, Accra on Friday, June 23, 2023, with 14 countries including Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Mali, Guinea, Chad, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Madagascar, Togo, Ivory Coast, and Gabon.
26 different categories competed on the opening day with Ghana strongly leading the medal haul with 29 gold medals, 26 silver, and 16 bronze.
Meanwhile, African powerhouse Egypt amassed 167 points to finish behind Ghana’s 599 points. The North African nation swept 16 gold medals, 1 silver, and 0 bronze on day 1 of the event which had the best from the continent competing.
Neighbours Nigeria placed 3rd with 143 points amounting to 7 gold medals, 5 silver, and 7 bronze medals.
The Ivory Coast, Gabon, Guinea, and Chad finished the opening day with no medals.
