Leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen has raised concern about the government’s current approach to sports development in the country.

According to him, the government cannot fund sports development with state funds alone.

He proposes that the government empower the private sector to establish sports academies and other infrastructure that would train athletes and sportsmen for the country.

“Government has the wrong approach, business model with sports. If the government thinks they can use the government budget to develop sports, it will not happen.

“It is all about government empowering the private sector to establish sports academies and infrastructure of the highest standard. If a private person is investing, he will make sure that he does it very well and he will maintain them,” Alan Kyerematen said on Tuesday.

The politician hoping to become Ghana’s president continued, “If you don’t have world class infrastructure in sports, you cannot develop world class sportsmen. If Alan becomes president with this policy on Sports, you will see what will happen.”

Alan Kyerematen was speaking at a media engagement when he shared these ideas for sports development.
