Professor Ransford Gyampo, Acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, has publicly challenged the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) suggestion that he interfered in an ongoing corruption investigation.
Gyampo confirmed contacting Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng directly—not the OSP office—amid a raid on Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) premises, but rejected claims of obstruction.
In a 22 June Facebook post, Gyampo clarified: “I didn’t call your office, I called YOU. We never spoke on phone because you said you couldn’t speak and that you were going to call back.” He stated his WhatsApp message to Agyebeng was solely a “cautionary text” urging actions avoiding “financial loss to the state,” while affirming support for anti-corruption efforts. “I only expressed the hope that your intentions are patriotic and not personal,” he wrote, citing public speculation about the Ken Ofori-Atta probe.
The OSP’s earlier statement had warned Gyampo’s contact during its joint operation with National Security at SML’s offices “raise[d] questions” and risked undermining investigations. Gyampo criticized this as an “unfair” implication, adding: “That makes me then doubt your intentions the more.” He pledged to release the WhatsApp exchanges to prove his focus was fiscal prudence.
The OSP maintains its investigation into former Finance Minister Ofori-Atta centers strictly on corruption allegations, including SML’s multi-year contract. It previously deemed Gyampo’s “vendetta” remarks “misleading and potentially harmful” to institutional credibility.
