Hearts of Oak bounced back to winning ways after losing Sunday’s Super Clash against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko with a 3-1 win over Berekum Chelsea at the University of Ghana Stadium on Friday night.
The Phobians were set out to prove a point at the University of Ghana Stadium after losing with virtually the last kick on Sunday, and they enjoyed a perfect start when Martin Karikari teed up Ahmed Ramzy to finish from close range.
Hearts looked the superior side in the first half as Berekum Chelsea struggled to cope after the early goal disrupted their gameplan.
After the recess, Hearts of Oak continued in the ascendency, with Hamza Issah scoring his fourth goal of the season and the second on the night for the Phobians after he raced through on Berekum Chelsea’s goal.
Issah’s goal, five minutes after the break, gave the home side a cushion as the clock ran down.
However, Berekum Chelsea’s Emmanuel Sarpong gave the visitors a lifeline with a glancing header to set up a nervy finale.
The game, however, was put beyond Berekum Chelsea’s reach when Kwabena Boateng sidefooted his effort from close range to see off Berekum Chelsea.
The win moves Hearts of Oak into fifth—two points off the top—ahead of the weekend’s fixtures, while Berekum Chelsea lie 9th.
