The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) have arrested Ghanaian social media personality and businessman Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng, popularly known as SoAfrican or SoAfricano, over alleged sexual crimes involving multiple women in Accra.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly targeted women at nightclubs and entertainment venues in the capital, where he is said to have used sedatives, including alprazolam (Xanax) and midazolam, to incapacitate his victims before allegedly assaulting them.
Investigators claim Boateng operated a Telegram platform identified as “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025,” where he allegedly shared intimate videos and images of women without their consent.
The arrest reportedly followed a joint operation involving the Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service and the BNI after formal complaints were lodged by foreign nationals who had visited Ghana during the 2025 Detty December festivities.
The victims allegedly discovered explicit videos and photos of themselves circulating online after returning to their home countries.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Director-General of the CID, DCOP Lydia Donkor, stated that the arrest was initiated following a complaint received through INTERPOL in Australia.
According to her, investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly took undue advantage of victims by administering substances and secretly recording them.
Police later traced Boateng to his residence in East Legon, where he was reportedly arrested on May 6, 2026.
During a search at the residence, authorities reportedly retrieved several electronic devices, including two iPhones, a MacBook, and an external hard drive. Officers also recovered empty sachets believed to have contained the suspected sedatives.
The seized electronic devices are currently undergoing forensic examination, while the substances recovered from the scene have been forwarded to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) for laboratory analysis.
Boateng has since been remanded into custody as investigations continue.
The Ghana Police Service has urged additional victims or persons with relevant information to come forward to assist with ongoing investigations as authorities intensify efforts to combat online sexual exploitation and abuse.
