How Naa Koryoo toppled Hawa Koomson with ease

By gaining 50,886 out of the total valid votes, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor affectionately called ‘The Woman’ by her supporters has snatched the Awutu Senya East (Kasoa) parliamentary seat from the NPP’s Mavis Hawa Koomson.

Hawa Koomson secured 38,942 votes from Saturday’s parliamentary elections bringing to an end her 12-year ‘dynasty.’

Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor first showed up in the 2020 elections but lost with some 5,000 votes difference.

After a successful campaign in the NDC’s internal elections held last year, she has proceeded to snatch the seat with an overwhelming margin.

She has pledged to offer unceasing job opportunities for the youth in the Kasoa area, tackle infrastructural problems while creating a more tranquil atmosphere.

She believes the time is now to wean Kasoa off the negative tag associated with the area. Koryoo says she will reveal opportunities meant for the people in the area soon.

Speaking to 3news.com, she expressed her heartfelt appreciation to voters for the profound exhibition of hope in her leadership and pledged to offer a better representation parliament.

Meanwhile, the NDC has also won the presidential elections for the first time since the creation of the constituency in 2012. The party’s presidential candidate, John Mahama secured 54,480 against 38,942 votes obtained by the NPP’s Mahamadu Bawumia.
