Life situations affect people differently, and when emotional pressure, unresolved personal issues, and prolonged stress are not well managed, they can gradually develop into depression and other serious mental health challenges.

One of the celebrities who has frequently been in the news for his mental health struggles is comedian and actor Funny Face, who has once again opened up about a deeply personal chapter of his life, revealing that he once battled severe depression and even considered ending his life during a mental health crisis.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Headless YouTuber, Funny Face explained how relationship challenges with his baby mama Vanessa and issues surrounding access to his children took a heavy toll on him, leaving him emotionally drained and at a point where he felt he had no will to continue living.

“I wanted to die, I was tired of life and so I wanted to die, but death too no dey come,” he said.

He also recounted moments that, according to him, made him realise he still had a desire to live. One of such instances, he said, happened at the beach one early morning, where an elderly woman reportedly questioned him about his intentions and warned him to go deeper into the water if he truly wanted to die. He said the encounter made him step back and rethink his actions.

Another moment came when he bought kenkey and fish worth GH¢40 and gave the seller GH¢50, only to find himself waiting for his GH¢10 change.

“That was when I realised I wasn’t ready to die because what was I using the change for if I really wanted to die?” he said jokingly, adding, “You go pay cemetery tollgate.”

The comedian further explained that in his view, many people who contemplate suicide are not necessarily seeking death itself, but are trying to escape emotional pain and suffering.

“Most of the people who commit suicide, they don’t want to die. They want the pain to end and they think it is only death that can make the pain end.”

He added that his experiences with depression have shaped his outlook on life and now influence his efforts to support and educate others on mental health awareness.

The comedian also referenced his involvement in the National Youth Authority’s “Red Means Stop” campaign, noting that his personal journey has equipped him to speak more openly to young people about mental health struggles.

“What would I teach about this? The experiences and the things I have seen. Going through mental health and fighting depression alone is not easy,” he said.

Funny Face’s struggles became widely public during a turbulent period involving his relationship with Vanessa, which led to public disagreements over access to his children and emotional exchanges on social media.

Those issues later escalated into more serious incidents, including public breakdowns and a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation after concerns were raised about his mental wellbeing.
