The founder of the Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Prof Frimpong Boateng has stated that, he was given a letter by the then Minister of Health not to step foot in the Korle Bu Cardio Centre.
According to Prof. Boateng, he was told, for certain reasons, his appointment had been terminated and he was wished luck in his future endeavors. He saw the reasons given to him to be funny however, he refused to disclose the reasons because of some legal issues going on.
Speaking on the GTV Breakfast show, he revealed that, he only recently stepped into Korle Bu yesterday but did not go into the cardio center 13 years after he was sacked.
He established that, the cardio center has lost a lot of ground and so needed to catch up but he was happy that outgoing management was keen on establishing a national cardiac institute.
Prof. Boateng emphasized that he needed to protect Korle Bu at that time since it lost 30% of its land during the coup in 1966, which led to him fighting for the center to be established because before then, people who had cardiac problems had to travel out for surgery when the cardiothoracic center was not established yet. He stressed that, the amount of money spent on heart surgery abroad was more than the head budget in Ghana.
