Black Stars shot-stopper Benjamin Asare has called for unity and togetherness within the Black Stars camp as competition for places intensifies ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper is among the players currently preparing with Ghana’s 28-man squad for the upcoming tournament, which will be hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico.
Speaking ahead of Ghana’s international friendly against Wales on June 2, Asare insisted players must support each other regardless of who gets selected to start matches.
“If the coach starts another goalkeeper ahead of me, it doesn’t mean that because I’m the number one, I should be angry. We have to stay prayerful and united for collective success,” he said.
The goalkeeper also admitted mistakes are part of football and urged supporters not to lose faith in the team despite recent criticism.
“Football, we have to accept that mistakes do happen, but that does not mean it is the end of it because there are a lot of matches ahead,” Asare added.
Ghana are preparing for their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance and have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
The Black Stars will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama before facing England and Croatia in their remaining group matches.
