Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram are among the candidates being considered for the vacant Black Stars head coach position on an interim basis. The move follows the resignation of Carlos Queiroz after Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.A five-member committee has been tasked with recommending a new coach, with the panel expected to submit its report on Friday, 9 October.According to a report by 3Sports, the committee is considering appointing an interim coach ahead of Ghana’s November double-header against Somalia.Medeama head coach Tanko and Black Stars assistant coach Attram are understood to be among the names being discussed for the temporary role. Both coaches have previous experience within Ghana’s national team setup.Tanko, a former Ghana international, has worked as an assistant coach of the senior national team and previously led the Black Meteors, Ghana’s Under-23 side.Attram, meanwhile, is already part of the Black Stars’ technical team and could provide continuity if selected to take charge on an interim basis.Ghana’s AFCON qualifying campaign has started poorly, with the Black Stars losing 2-0 away to Cte d’Ivoire before suffering a 4-2 defeat by The Gambia in Accra.Ghana surrendered a two-goal lead in the second match, leaving the team without a point from their opening two Group C games. The Black Stars are under pressure to revive their campaign as they seek to return to the AFCON after missing the 2025 tournament in Morocco.Their next assignment will be a double-header against Somalia in November, giving the new coach an immediate test. After those fixtures, Ghana will not play another AFCON qualifier until March 2027, when they face Cte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in their final two group matches. The gap between the November fixtures and the final two qualifiers could give the Ghana Football Association and the search committee more time to assess their options before making a permanent appointment. For now, Tanko and Attram are among the candidates being considered as Ghana looks to steady the Black Stars and revive their hopes of reaching the 2027 AFCON.
