President-elect John Mahama has revealed his plans to fully dedicate himself to farming after retiring from politics. During a recent visit to his farms in Yapei and Busunu in the Savannah region, Mahama shared his deep passion for agriculture and his vision for his post-political career.

“Farming is my life. I love it, and I’m sure if I didn’t go into politics, I would have been a full-time farmer,” Mahama stated. He added, “When I retire after this stint, of course, I’m going to go into full-time farming. If you want to see me, you’ll have to come to the farm.”

Mahama’s agricultural journey has grown significantly over the years. He started with 300 goats and small ruminants, and now the farm boasts nearly 500 animals, with an additional 200 recently added. He also plans to expand into sheep and cattle farming, seeing a positive outlook for the future. On the crop side, his farm produces maize and soybeans, which are supplied directly to farms in Asutuare for poultry feed.

Despite the significant demands of his political career, Mahama has continued to nurture his love for the land. He described farming as more than just a business, but a way of life that is deeply therapeutic and fulfilling. “This is not just a business; it’s a way of life for me. It’s therapeutic and fulfilling to work on the farm,” he said.

Mahama’s commitment to agriculture underscores his desire to contribute to Ghana’s food security and support local farmers. His plans to return to farming full-time after his political career reflect his enduring passion for the agricultural sector and his long-term vision for his future.
