‘I’m Deeply Saddened By The Devastating Fire At Kantamanto Market’- President Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the devastating fire that ravaged Kantamanto Market in Accra on Thursday, January 2, 2024. The blaze, which began at dawn, left over 30,000 traders displaced and caused significant losses.

During his final State of the Nation Address on Friday, January 3, 2024, the President expressed his deep sorrow over the tragedy. “I am deeply saddened by the devastating fire at Kantamanto Market yesterday, which has left many traders and their livelihoods in ruins. My thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and I extend heartfelt sympathies to the hard-working traders who have lost their goods and investments,” he said.

He further assured the victims that the government would work diligently with relevant agencies to determine the cause of the fire and provide support to aid their recovery. “The government stands with you and will work with relevant agencies to ascertain the causes of the fire and provide the needed support,” he promised.

Calling for national unity, President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to extend compassion and solidarity to those affected. “Together, we can extend a helping hand to our fellow Ghanaians in need during this challenging time,” he noted.

The tragic incident claimed one life and left 14 others with serious injuries, deepening the sorrow of the affected community. As investigations continue, traders face the daunting task of rebuilding their businesses and livelihoods amid the ashes.
