Legendary Nigerian music executive Don Jazzy has revealed that he believes he is destined to be a star maker.
In a recent podcast interview, the legendary Nigerian music producer said that he feels like he has a divine mandate to help people grow and succeed.
“I feel like it’s my calling to help people grow.. I have a strong conviction that I know how to work with people, and I want to use my skills to help others achieve their dreams.”
Don Jazzy’s belief in his calling to help others is rooted in his own experiences as a musician. He said that when he and his former group, Mo’Hits, were starting out, they were “kind of lost for a while” before they found their footing. He believes that if he had had more guidance and support at the beginning of his career, he would have been able to achieve even more success.
“If I see young artists now, I’m like, ‘if this person doesn’t have like guidance before they get to a certain level, they might just be lost as well,’” Don Jazzy said.
“It would be nice if we could speed up the process. It would be nice if somebody that has been down the road before… You know where the potholes dey dey, you can just tell the person say, I don pass this road before. Avoid this road, follow here.’”
Don Jazzy’s desire to help others has led him to create the Mavin Records label, which has helped to launch the careers of some of Nigeria’s biggest stars, including Tiwa Savage, D’Prince, and Rema. He has also spoken out about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the music industry.
“I feel like anybody that has any update about how to survive, should share the update it doesn’t matter where you come from, it doesn’t matter what your background is, if you have something to offer, you should share it.”
