Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has implored Ghanaians to remain patient with the internet service providers and the National Communication Authority (NCA) including her Ministry as they work around the clock to restore their internet connectivity.
Ghana and some African countries like Nigeria and Liberia experienced an internet outage days ago, hence disrupting economic activities and activities of internet users.
The internet problem is attributed to some faulty undersea cables which the authorities are yet to identify and fix.
The Minister, speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, reaffirmed the communiqué issued by the NCA specifiying the reasons for the internet breakdown and the probable duration to rectify the problem.
“The fibre optic cables that provide internet to Ghana got damaged 5 kilometres under sea level in Ivory Coast,” Hon. Ursula Owusu said, stressing five cables have been damaged undersea and it will take time for them to be repaired.
“As the day goes by, they are working around the clock to restore the internet but it will take a bit long unless we are able to repair the five affected cables,” she indicated.
She, however, assured the nation of an improvement in internet services while Ghana waits for full restoration of the internet, thereby pleading with “Ghanaians to exercise patience”.
