Ghanaian actress Nikki Samonas has reflected on one of the most challenging moments in her acting career.
In a conversation on Adom TV’s ShowTym, the actress recounted the intense backlash she faced after starring alongside Nigerian actor and producer Jim Iyke in the movie My First Wife.
According to Nikki Samonas, the criticism stemmed from an intimate scene in the film, which sparked conversations and negative reactions from some viewers. She explained that she could not understand why people reacted so harshly, stressing that it was simply a movie role and nothing personal as many perceived it to be.
“It was just a movie o, I beg you, it was just a movie. Like it was horrible. I wanted the earth to divide then I enter so it closes. It was 2012, 14 years ago,” she said during the interview.
The movie star further revealed that the public reaction had a significant emotional impact on her, leading her to withdraw from people and social media conversations during that period.
“I really coiled that time. If I knew ignoring comments on social media was good at that time, I wouldn’t have read them because it was really bad,” she stated.

Nikki Samonas disclosed that the experience affected her to the extent that she turned down a movie opportunity from Ghanaian filmmaker Abdul Salam Mumuni, as she was emotionally overwhelmed at the time. According to her, the filmmaker contacted her for a major project, but she was unable to respond due to the emotional strain she was dealing with.
The award-winning actress also shared how she landed the opportunity to work with Jim Iyke. She explained that the Nigerian actor was in Ghana shooting films at the time and noticed her on set. According to her, Jim Iyke praised her acting skills and later selected her to feature in the project.
She clarified that she did not know Jim Iyke personally before the production and emphasized that nothing beyond professional collaboration happened between them during the film.
