Ivory Coast weather could help Black Stars win 2023 AFCON – Ghana FA’s Addo

Ghana Football Association general secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, is optimistic about the Black Stars’ chances of ending their long trophy drought at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast.

Ghana would have qualified if they had defeated Madagascar in Antananarivo last Sunday, but a lacklustre performance resulted in a draw, leaving them just a point away from qualification.

With just a win or draw against Central African Republic needed to secure qualification, Addo is already looking ahead to the competition.

Addo believes the four-time African champions have the potential to reclaim the title due to favourable conditions in Ivory Coast, as the two neighbouring countries share a border.

He highlighted that everything, including the weather, suits the Black Stars, which gives them an advantage.

“The weather and everything [in Ivory Coast] suits us, so we’re hoping to qualify and go and win the cup,” Addo expressed during an interview with Asempa FM.

The Black Stars’ last triumph in the Africa Cup of Nations dates back to 1982, and they have since experienced three final defeats, two of which were at the hands of Ivory Coast.
