The government will soon release a detailed list of all public lands across Ghana to promote transparency and accountability in land management.

This announcement was made by Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, during a press briefing in Accra on August 14, 2024.

Jinapor highlighted that the initiative reflects the Akufo-Addo administration’s commitment to safeguarding public lands from encroachment and misuse.

He stated, “The Akufo-Addo government has been unwavering in its resolve to protect public lands. We are committed to preserving these lands and ensuring that the public is fully informed about their status.”

This announcement follows recent accusations by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who alleged state capture and unlawful reallocation of public lands to private entities.

These claims have sparked public concern and calls for greater transparency.

In response, Jinapor dismissed the allegations as unfounded and politically motivated, asserting that all public land transactions have been conducted transparently and legally.

He emphasized that the government is finalizing an audit of public lands to verify their proper management and to address any concerns regarding wrongful acquisition or misappropriation.

“The publication of this list will not only enhance transparency but also build public confidence in managing our national assets,” Jinapor said.

He assured the public that the government is dedicated to managing public lands for the benefit of all Ghanaians and that the forthcoming list will detail all transactions involving these lands.

Jinapor concluded by affirming that all state-controlled lands are secure and that the government remains vigilant in protecting these valuable assets.
